On 27 May 2026, Professor Maurizio Codispoti passed away. He had been Full Professor of General Psychology at the University of Bologna since 2012.
He began his academic training at the University of Padua, where he graduated in 1991 and later took up a position as Researcher in 2000. In 2002, he continued his career as Associate Professor at the Department of Psychology of the University of Bologna, where he became Full Professor in 2012.
His teaching was addressed to students of Psychology, Medicine and Statistics, and focused on General Psychology and the relationship between emotions and cognitive processes.
Among the institutional roles he held were positions related to research, as a member of the Research Committee, and to the training of young researchers, as Coordinator of the PhD Programme in Psychological Sciences.
His main research interests concerned the perception of natural scenes and the relationships between emotions, perception and learning. In pursuing these research lines, Professor Codispoti collaborated with colleagues at national and international level and created a laboratory where generations of researchers could grow, develop and engage in scientific exchange.
At the heart of his approach to training was a deep ability to listen. He was able to combine rigorous moments with lighter ones, while always remaining respectful of the person he was speaking with and of the context.
His attitude towards research was always marked by curiosity and rigour, and by a refusal to settle for simplistic or fashionable explanations. The quality and quantity of his scientific articles and chapters bear witness to his scholarly productivity.
