Times Higher Education - World University Rankings 2023

In the recently published Times Higher Education (THE) rankings for early October, the University of Bologna achieved an impressive result, moving from the 172nd position in 2022 to 161st this year. This positions Bologna as the top-ranked among the 55 Italian universities included. Following Bologna are the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa at 183rd place, and a group of universities ranked between 201-250 (Humanitas, Padova, S. S. S. Anna, Sapienza, Vita Salute S. Raffaele). The THE ranking is based on five pillars: Teaching, Research, Citations, Industry Income, and International Outlook. This year, modifications were introduced to the indicators supporting these pillars, and we plan to provide further insights into these changes soon.

The University of Bologna scored highest in the Teaching pillar, ranking 96th with a score of 52.1. This is followed by Research (222nd, score 40.8), Citations (311th, score 80.2), Industry Income (515th, score 46.4), and International Outlook (633rd, score 51.6). With a score of 52.1 out of 100, the university's Teaching dimension is close to the global top (52.4).
